Blocker

A blocker is very common element and main obstacle. They prevent a player from accomplishing a level goal. They usually take up a square (except of cake bombs, which occupy four squares).  Blockers threaten the combination of candies and can be very annoying. Blockers are the main obstacles of the board, so the player has to clear them. Nearly every level has at least one type of blocker. Sometimes blockers are useful because they can prevent chocolate from spreading and very necessary for some type of levels. There are many different types of blockers, each having different properties, so a player has to deal with each one differently. Some are easier to deal with, some harder. Blockers cannot be swapped with other candies, except of liquorice swirl and time bomb candies. Blockers are listed below:

Marmalade

A weaker version of the Licorice Lock. Usually protects special candies, but in later levels, the cover up normal candies and even candy bombs. Break it by matching normal candies adjoining it or combination of special candies. First appeared in Level 24.

Liquorice Lock

Prevents candies from being moved or destroyed. May also hold candy bombs and other special forms of candies. Break it by matching normal candies adjoining it or special candies combination. First appeared in Level 27.

Liquorice Swirl

Cannot be matched, and resistant to special candy powers. Break it by matching normal candies adjoining it or special candies combination. First appeared in Level 36.

Time Bomb Candy (Candy Bomb)

Limits the number of available moves, unless cleared. Time between 1 and 50. Eliminate them by making adjacent matches or combination of special candies. First appeared in Level 96.

Chocolate

Multiplies and replaces an adjacent candy if not broken in a move. Break it by matching normal candies adjoining it or special candies combination. First Appeared in Level 141.

One Layered Frosting (Previously known as One Layered Icing (Sachet) )

It only takes one match adjoining to the slot to clear the slot. First appeared in Level 21.

Two Layered Frosting (Previously known as Two Layered Icing)

This frosting takes two hits to destroy. When the blocker is hit the first time, then player sees an empty sachet. First appeared in Level 51.

Three Layered Frosting (Previously known as Three Layered Icing)

This frosting takes three hits to destroy. It features an icing with a brown center. First appeared in Level 81.

Four Layered Frosting (Previously known as Four Layered Icing)

This four takes four hits to destroy. It features an icing with a brown spot. This brown spot has a smaller white spot in the center. First appeared in Level 126.

Five Layered Frosting (Previously known as Five Layered Icing)

It features an frosting with brown and white spots, but top white spot has brown spot in the center. This blocker takes five hits. Blocker which takes second most hits, falling behind from cake bomb. Break it by matching candies adjoining it if there is normal candy or time bomb candy or wrapped candy or striped candy and by combination of special candies if there is normal candy or time bomb candy or special candies. First appeared in Level 156.

Chocolate Spawner

Permanent throughout the level. Produces chocolate every two moves when there’s no chocolates on the board. First appeared in Level 186.

Cake Bomb

Occupies 4 tiles. Each tile takes two adjacent matches to remove the slices. Clears the entire board when all slices are cleared. First appeared in Level 366.

One Layered Sugar Chest

The simplest sugar chest is simply a pot with a purple lid and a heart-shaped lock with a keyhole. The chest is translucent and upon close inspection, the contents of the chest are visible. First appeared in Level 711.

Two Layered Sugar Chest

Two-layered sugar chests are single-tile stationary blockers that take two matches involving sugar keys to open and therefore destroy. Each matched sugar key results in a degrade. After the first degrade, it becomes a sugar chest with no toppings. First appeared in Level 711.

Three Layered Sugar Chest

Three-layered sugar chests are single-tile stationary blockers that take three matches involving sugar keys to open and therefore destroy. Each matched sugar key results in a degrade. After the first degrade, it becomes a two-layered sugar chest with a crumbly biscuit topping, then after the second degrade, becomes a plain sugar chest with no toppings. These blockers cannot be destroyed by anything other than matches involving the sugar key. First appeared in Level 711.

Four Layered Sugar Chest

Four-layered sugar chests are single-tile stationary blockers that take four matches involving sugar keys to open and therefore destroy. Each matched sugar key results in a degrade. After the first degrade, it becomes a three-layered sugar chest with only the pink icing layer, then after the second degrade, becomes a two-layered sugar chest with a crumbly biscuit topping, then after the third degrade, becomes a sugar chest with no toppings. These blockers cannot be destroyed by anything other than matches involving the sugar key! First appeared in Level 711.

Five Layered Sugar Chest

Five-layered sugar chests are single-tile stationary blockers that take five matches involving sugar keys  to open and therefore destroy. Each matched sugar key results in a degrade. After the first degrade, it becomes a four-layered sugar chest with only a thick red jam layer covering a pink icing layer, then after the second, becomes a three-layered sugar chest with only the pink icing layer, then after the third, becomes a two-layered sugar chest with a crumbly biscuit topping, then after the fourth and final, becomes a plain sugar chest with no toppings. These blockers cannot be destroyed by anything other than matches involving the sugar key. First appeared in Level 713.

Liquorice Shell (Previously known as Pop Corn)

Liquorice shell is a stationary blocker occupying one space that takes three hits to clear. When it is hit by the effects of a special candy, the liquorice shell grows larger on the square upon which it sits. When it is hit a second time, it grows even larger and starts flashing. When it is hit a third time, it pops and turns into a color bomb that can immediately be used by the player.

  • If a Liquorice shell is found inside a Sugar Chest, it keeps the resistance, but it cannot take damage before opening the chest.
  • However, there is a small difference between both versions. At the last stage, if a striped candy’s effect hits liquorice shell, candies beyond it are also affected. This is only seen on the web version, while in the mobile version, candies beyond it are not affected.
  • A liquorice shell can appear under liquorice lock. This type of liquorice shell is even more durable, which can take four hits before destroyed.
  • Liquorice shell is a stationary blocker unless it is placed on the conveyor belt at the beginning. In this case, the liquorice shell moves along the belt.
  • If a lucky candy on a conveyor belt turns into liquorice shell, it will be destroyed immediately.

First appeared in Level 773.

Evil Spawner (Magic Mixer)

The magic mixer is perhaps the most threatening blocker yet, along with the chocolate spawner. The blocker looks like a clock interface with two battery meters either side of it (see above). After a predetermined number of turns (usually 3, but sometimes even 2 as seen in level 1354, level 1895 and former level 1350, or 4 moves in level 2760), the magic mixer will spawn a blocker on squares within its radius. If these blockers are not cleared, the magic mixer will spawn blockers further outside its radius. Locked magic mixers first appear at level 1590, but these will not spawn or progress unless the lock is broken. It spawns marmalade, multi-layered icing, chocolates, candy bombs, liquorice locks, liquorice swirls, candy bombs, waffle, dark chocolate, crystal candy, rainbow twist, sugar coat and bubblegum pop. Break it by matching candies adjoining it or by combination of special candies. First appeared in Level 686 (Unofficial) and Level 1326 (Official).

Bobber

It is activated by hitting with special candies. When it is hit, it spawns jelly fish. If the bobber is hit with striped candy or wrapped candy, it will spawn 1 jelly fish. If the bobber is hit with combination of special candies, it will spawn 3 jelly fish. When it swamped, it swims to icing when there is no jellies on the board. It is indestructible (un-destroyed)so it can be hit as many times as you like. It behave differently than a jelly fish. Jelly fish once activated, it produces 3 jelly fish that swim onto the board and eat candies. When hitting the bobber, every jelly fish swims off the board, then back on again. First appeared in Level 2406.

Candy Cane Fence

It appears between tiles, much like ingredient exits and teleporters. It is is indestructible. It doesn’t block special candy effects. If a blocker is on one side of the candy cane fence then matches on the other side will have no effect. They block candies from falling. It is impossible to swap candies from one side of the candy cane fence to the other. Special candies cannot be made if the candy cane fence is involved. Chocolate can’t spread through the candy cane fence. If a blocker surrounded by candy cane fences is destroyed then the candy cane fences will prevent the space from being filled by anything else. Furthermore, candy cane fences may be used to surround blockers so that they can only be destroyed by special candy effects. First appeared in Level 3246.

Toffee Swirl (Waffle)

The toffee swirl (formerly known as waffle, also known as falling icing). It is very similar to multilayered icing (even having up to 5 layers), except it is mobile, like a multilayered liquorice swirl that doesn’t block special candies effect. Like liquorice swirls, toffee swirls are immune to chocolate. A candy frog landing on a toffee swirl will remove it completely, regardless of the number of layers it has. However, if a toffee swirl is destroyed by a candy frog landing directly on top of it, then it only counts as one toffee swirl. Cake bomb explosions can blow away waffles regardless of the number of layers they have. First appeared in Level 299 (Unofficial) and Level 501 (Official).

One Layered Toffee Swirl

It only takes one match adjoining to the slot to clear the slot. First appeared in Level 3501.

Two Layered Toffee Swirl

Dark Chocolate

It has properties identical to chocolate, but the only difference is the way how it spreads. One square of Dark Chocolate is generated whenever one Dark Chocolate gains a layer or when a new Dark Chocolate square has spread. A chocolate square with the lowest number of layers will gain a layer, up to the highest-layered Dark Chocolate on the board. If there are 3-layered chocolate, 1-layered chocolate becomes 2-layered first, then 2-layered chocolate becomes 3-layered. A new dark chocolate square will spread only if the layers of all the dark chocolate squares are identical – they are all at the maximum number of layers currently present on the board. Therefore, Dark Chocolate spreads slower than regular chocolate, as the equivalent number of Dark Chocolate squares take up less space than regular chocolate. Though it requires more hits to destroy, they are less disruptive to your moves than regular chocolate. First appeared in Level 1003 (Unofficial).

One Layered Dark Chocolate

It only takes one hit to destroy. It consists of black chocolate. First appeared in Level 3711.

Two Layered Dark Chocolate

It takes two hits to destroy. It consists of a layer of white chocolate on top of a one-layered dark chocolate. First appeared in Level 3711.

Three Layered Dark Chocolate

It takes three hits to destroy. It consists of black chocolate on top of a two-layered dark chocolate. First appeared in Level 3713.

Candy Cane Curls

It is a variant of the candy cane fence. It can be destroyed by general candy and special candy. There are three layers of curls; orange, purple and green. Like as candy cane fence, the candy cane curls also prevent by moving each other.

Crystal Candy

Crystal candies encase other elements, similar to marmalade and liquorice locks. However, they can be cleared by making matches underneath them (by moving the candy outside the crystal candy into it to create a match). Candies and movable blockers can pass through them like jelly. Elements such as licorice locks and conveyor belts can be underneath them. They can also be destroyed by special candies but they can’t be destroyed by making regular matches next to them. If an immovable blocker is underneath crystal candies in can only be destroyed with special candies.

One Layered Crystal Candy

It only takes one hit to destroy. It can be be cleared by swapping the candy inside with another candy to make a match inside them. First appeared in Level 4596.

Two Layered Crystal Candy

It only takes two hits to destroy. It can be be cleared by swapping the candy inside with another candy to make a match inside them. First appeared in Level 4596.

Three Layered Crystal Candy

It only takes three hits to destroy. It can be be cleared by swapping the candy inside with another candy to make a match inside them. First appeared in Level 4596.

Rainbow Twist

The rainbow twist can have up to five layers. It acts like liquorice link seen in the sequels (Candy Crush Soda, Candy Crush Jelly and Candy Crush Friends). Specifically, the rainbow twists are linked together to form a chain and destroying any one of them destroys the whole chain. Candy Canes can block rainbow twists from linking up, as seen in level 5694. Rainbow twists encased by encasing blockers are not considered part of a chain. Once they are freed, they automatically link up with the rest of the rainbow twists adjacent to them. Conveyor belts can move rainbow twists, which can result in chains of rainbow twists being linked and unlinked.

One Layered Rainbow Twist

It only takes one hit to destroy. First appeared in Level 5676. Purple in color.

Two Layered Rainbow Twist

It takes two hits to destroy. First appeared in Level 5676. White in color.

Three Layered Rainbow Twist

It takes three hits to destroy. First appeared in Level 5676. Yellow in color.

Five Layered Rainbow Twist

It takes five hits to destroy. First appeared in Level 5676. Blue in color.

Sugar Coat

The sugar coat encases elements, just like liquorice lock. When it’s matched with candies with not all of them being encased in sugar coats, one layer is reduced. If all candies matched are in sugar coats, except when those form color bomb, all of their layers will be removed. The sugar coat is movable, despite being an encasing blocker. An ingredient encased in sugar coat cannot be collected. Sugar coat cannons have a unique behavior, compared to most candy cannons. Firstly, sugar coat cannons can spawn one-layered, two-layered or three-layered sugar coats depending on the level but the symbol on the cannon is always a three-layered sugar coat. Candy cannons that only spawn sugar coats will spawn regular candies encased in the designated sugar coat layer. Candy cannons that spawn sugar coats along with another element will give one of three possibilities:

  1. Sugar coats (encasing regular candies) spawn separately from the other element(s) (seen with the ingredient + sugar coat cannon in Level 5993).
  2. Sugar coats that spawn can encase both regular candies and the other element(s) that spawns from the candy cannon (seen with the striped candy + sugar coat cannon in level 5995).
  3. Sugar coats will always spawn from the cannon encasing the candy cannon’s other element(s) (seen with the lucky candy + sugar coat cannon in level 6005).

One Layered Sugar Coat

It take one hit to destroy. First appeared in Level 5991.

Two Layered Sugar Coat

It takes two hits to destroy. First appeared in Level 5991.

Three Layered Sugar Coat

It takes three hits to destroy. First appeared in Level 5991.

Bubblegum Pop

The bubblegum pop can have up to five layers, like multilayered icing, waffles, and rainbow twist. It can be broken by making matches adjacent to it, or through any special candy’s effects reaching the blocker. When all of the layers are removed, it will give a 3×3 blast, equivalent to a wrapped candy explosion. Bobber can be emitted a fish if the bubblegum pop gives a blasting.

One Layered Bubblegum Pop

It take one hit to destroy. First appeared in Level 6531.

Two Layered Bubblegum Pop

It takes two hits to destroy. First appeared in Level 6534.

Three Layered Bubblegum Pop

Five Layered Bubblegum Pop

It takes five hits to destroy. First appeared in Level 6531.

Rainbow Rapid

It is needed to make rainbow candies. Rainbows must reach the mold to make rainbow candies. To make the rainbow rapids reach the mold, you must clear all the blockers blocking the path. Blockers (except for crystal candies and candy bombs) can stop the flow of the rainbow rapids. Once the rainbow rapids have reached the mold, the mold will fill up and produce a rainbow candy, which is then automatically collected. The rainbow rapids then disappear, along with its corresponding cannon and path. First appeared in Level 7116.

Liquorice Curl

The liquorice curl is type of Candy Cane Curl that can block special candies (similarly to liquorice swirls). They resemble Candy Cane Curls with a different color scheme, being black, purple and cyan, while Candy Cane Curls are orange, purple and green, respectively.

One Layered Liquorice Curl

It only takes one hit to destroy. First appeared in Level 7581.

Two Layered Liquorice Curl

It takes two hits to destroy. First appeared in Level 7581.

Three Layered Liquorice Curl

It takes three hits to destroy. First appeared in Level 7582.

Liquorice Fence

The liquorice fence is a type of Candy Cane Fence that blocks special candies’ effects (similarly to liquorice swirls). The liquorice fence resembles the Candy Cane Fence, except it’s red and black, instead of red and white. First appeared in Level 7596.

Order Lock

This blocker seems to resemble an orange picture frame. To clear this blocker, you must collect all of the orders shown on the lock. Only preexisting candy orders are tied to the order lock. This means that elements that haven’t been required for candy orders before (i.e. coconut wheels, sugar chests, UFOs, etc.) will not be required to unlock order locks (unless those elements become required for candy orders in the future). Order locks can appear stretched so they cover multiple tiles, similar to Candy Cane Fences and their counterparts. However, every element encased within the order lock’s perimeter is locked until the order lock is removed (while elements encased by candy cane fences can still be hit with special candies). Striped candy and wrapped candy effects do not clear candies in the order lock. A color bomb does not target candies in order locks. Jelly fish may target candies in the order lock and each of the targeted candy counts as 20 points, but no jelly would be cleared. Special candy effects do not clear jellies enclosed by order lock. The order lock area has its spaces shaded in dark, like rainbow rapids path. It’s possible for two or more order locks in the same level to require the same element for the order but of a greater quantity than others (i.e. one order lock requiring 10 frosting layers to unlock and the second requiring 20 frosting layers). Order locks can be moved by conveyor belts, but only if they encase one tile. Some levels that have candy orders as a requirement to complete the level will also require the same order to unlock order locks (i.e. Level 7896 and Level 7903). First appeared in Level 7896.

Sour Skull

Skull Pedestals, on their own, cannot be damaged. To remove them, you have to make matches next to the Sour Skull, which moves to a different pedestal each time it is hit. Sour Skulls have five layers, and when the skull is removed, so are all of the pedestals. Pedestals can also have other elements hidden behind them, like blockers and ingredients. Once the Sour Skull is hit, it vanishes for the rest of the turn. It appears on another Skull Pedestal after all cascades have ended on the turn it was hit. Because of this, it is only possible to clear one Sour Skull layer per move. When a Skull Pedestal flashes it means that it will be the one that the Sour Skull will be on next time it moves. The amount of Skull Pedestals in a level can vary but there must be at least two of them so the Sour Skull can move. The Sour Skull’s movement can be either variable or fixed. In some levels, the sour skull starts on a random Skull Pedestal and moves to a random one every time it is hit. In other levels, the Sour Skull always starts on the same pedestal and moves in a fixed pattern. In levels with more than five skull pedestals, the skull will not land on every pedestal before it is destroyed.
